An intelligence agency is a governmental organization devoted to gathering of information by any means, including espionage (spying), communication interception, cryptanalysis, cooperation with other institutions, and evaluation of public sources.

Intelligence agencies are also involved in activities such as terrorism, media-control, placement of misinformation, propaganda, information control, covert warfare, torture and counter-espionage.

Most such agencies are involved in "covert" operations such as assassination, narcotics sales, arms sales as well as coups d'etat and other covert operations in order to support their own interests and agendas, both of who they generally prioritize higher than their governments' interests.

Information gathering intelligence agencies are mostly quasi governmental - and in rare cases governmental - organizations whose primary duty is:

• the collection,
• analysis and
• dissemination

of ALL knowledge.

The National Security Agency is the biggest and most powerful such agency on the planet. Their job, which they do very well, is to monitor ALL COMMUNICATIONS - human as well as alien.
