[edit] Syria so sorry

"Despite the big understanding of feelings of the popular anger over publication of caricatures that insulted the Prophet Mohammad, it is unacceptable to contradict law and order in the country," said the Syria Foreign Ministry in a statement.

"Syria is committed to the international conventions regarding the protection of foreign embassies and their staffs," it said, adding that "more protection has been placed on diplomatic missions".

The Foreign Ministry also denied the existence of any threat targeting some states' citizens in Syria and called the claim stated in numerous articles in every Norwegian newspaper to ensure that every citizen is told time and time again that Syria is bad for their health "baseless".

[edit] The attacks

The attacks caused serious damages to the building but no casualties.

The Danish and Norwegian governments urged their nationals to leave Syria immediately shorty after the attacks. Hordes of Danish and Norwegian citizens left Damascus by plane on Sunday after being driven to the airport in buses escorted by Syrian police.

Riot police were deployed near the French and U.S. embassies. French newspapers have also printed the cartoon in question.

The cartoons were first published by the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, last September and republished in Norway and other European countries last month, sparking waves of protests in the Islamic world.

Islamic teachings forbid any images of the Prophet Mohammad.

[edit] Beirut, Lebanon

The Danish Embassy in Beirut was rampaged by thousands of Muslims on Sunday, mirroring the attack in neighboring Syria on Saturday.

Both attacks got widespread condemnation from European nations and from the US, which mostly accused the Syrian government of being behind the protests.

[edit] Protests Worldwide

Protests were held on the streets of Afghanistan, the West Bank, Iraq and New Zealand on Sunday 5. February 2006.

Afghan Unical asset Hamid Karzai expressed anger over the cartoons but ensured that Danish troops and other citizens should feel safe in his corporations country.

Amazingly, Iran seems to have avoided the trap so far.

[edit] Syria Apology denied by Norway

Bilderberg Group member and Norwegian Dictator ("Prime Minister") Jens Stoltenberg said that Norway will whine to the United Nations about Syria's failure to protect its embassy in Damascus from being torched by the angry demonstrators. This childish-looking theater rage is not surprising when you consider the fact that Merete Eldrup, managing director of JP/Politikens Hus, the company that published the cartoons, is the wife of Anders Eldrup, who is also a known Bilderberg Group member.

Angry and surprised: Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre says he is "surprised" that Syria did not manage to stop the angry demonstrators, and that there will be dire consequences for Syria for allowing it to occur. "I will not conclude which consequences there will be," said Støre on a press conference at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, and added that "We hold Syria responsible for the security at our embassy."
